Automatic Drilling for JNC Fencing

MPS built an automatic steel drilling line that processes profiles of various lengths.

JNC Fencing specializes in outdoor security and manufactures, among other things, fencing, gates, and security solutions for a wide range of applications. This production process involves the use of many steel tubes and profiles that require precise drill holes.

To replace an outdated drilling line, JNC Fencing sought a solution better suited to its daily production: automatic, reliable, and compact, with no restrictions on occasionally longer profiles.

The Challenge

In the production of outdoor security fencing, many orders consist of relatively short posts, beams, and fencing components. At the same time, longer profiles regularly come through, for example, for large gates or wider fencing structures.

A traditional drilling line quickly requires a lot of space for material feed and discharge. This is impractical when the majority of production consists of shorter profiles, but the ability to process long lengths from time to time is still necessary.

JNC Fencing’s request was therefore clear: an automatic steel drilling line that operates efficiently for short profiles but is still suitable for longer workpieces without requiring significant additional space.

Our Solution

Through MPS, Van Dulst Techniek’s custom machine-building division, we delivered an automatic steel drilling line with a smart transfer system.

The machine is entirely designed for the automatic positioning and drilling of steel profiles. The operator places the material on the line and starts the cycle. The machine then positions the profile, performs the preset drilling operation, and automatically moves on to the next position.

The line can drill both single-sided and through holes. This makes the system suitable for various components used in the production of fencing and outdoor security systems.

Compact machine, suitable even for long profiles

The transfer system is what makes this machine unique. Instead of pushing a profile exclusively from one side, the machine picks up the profile again midway through the process.

As soon as the carriage reaches its maximum stroke, the machine clamps the profile in place, moves, and picks up the material again. Processing then continues from the next position.

This allows JNC Fencing to process longer profiles without requiring an exceptionally long infeed and outfeed conveyor. The machine remains compact, while the processable profile length is virtually unlimited in practice.

This makes this type of line particularly well-suited for companies that primarily produce shorter products but also want to remain flexible for large components or non-standard projects.

Automatic indexing and precise drilling

During the cycle, the machine automatically moves from one drilling position to the next. This eliminates the need for the operator to constantly measure, adjust, or reposition the workpiece manually.

Even drill holes close to the beginning or end of a profile can be reliably drilled. The machine clamps the material in a controlled manner, ensuring stable machining and consistent dimensions.

For JNC Fencing, this means a more streamlined workflow on the shop floor: fewer manual steps, less reliance on manual positioning, and greater continuity in production.

A targeted replacement for daily production

The new steel drilling line replaces an outdated system and better aligns with JNC Fencing’s product mix. The solution combines automated machining with a compact footprint and the flexibility to process longer profiles as well.

It is precisely this combination that makes the machine well-suited for the outdoor security industry: efficient for repetitive work, yet without limitations when an order calls for larger or non-standard profiles.

Do you want to drill and manufacture more efficiently?

Do you work with steel tubes, pipes, or profiles, and does positioning, measuring, and drilling still involve a lot of manual labor? Or are you looking for a production system that fits compactly in your facility but remains flexible for different product lengths?

Through MPS Techniek, Van Dulst Techniek develops custom production systems for steel processing, profile processing, and automated material handling. From automatic feeding and precision drilling to smart removal and complete processing lines.
